A fantastic day at the Sharkpool, the sun was out, weather warm and the crowd big - Ladies Day was huge and will be getting a post of its own with all the pix later today. The day started with the u15s in a tight match against Terrigal, good to see such quality in young players not too many years away from grade. The u19s took on comp leaders Woy Woy and were always in control in their last regular season match, taking the win 33-19. tries to Liam Vanezis (2), Harry Layton, Matt Peebles and Reece Piepers who also kicked 4 conversions. 1pt Tom Wood, 2pts Aaron Holder, 3pts and players player after a great game, Eamon Powell. Thirds got a forfeit win and then next up was the Womens 7s in the later time slot. In their first game against Hornsby it was a 21-5 win with the tries scored by Taylah Welsh, Summer Witt & Rachael Elcoate who also kicked 2 conversions and Summer Witt kicked one. Their second game prior to first grade was in front of a large and very supportive crowd, especially those in the Ladies Day tent. In that game it was 22-0 with tries to Jessie Jensen, Renee Staben, Taylah Welsh & Elana Withnall, Rachael Elcoate kicked the conversion. 1pt Rachael Elcoate, 2pts Hannah Stewart and a visit to the naughty chair as well, with the 3pts and players player to Renee Staben who was celebrating her 50th game for the Club. Like the 19s the Womens team have a bye next week before heading into their finals series. Second grade played a Gosford team loaded with experience who were able to take advantage of any errors we made. It ended up 7-40 with Matt Kiddle getting try that was converted by Will Byrne. Special family moment was Club great Sam Fortey making a guest appearance and playing his 250th game for the Sharks - running on to join his nephew Oscar Bath on the field. Loudest cheer in the game came as Blake Jacob got in the clear and was heading for a try in the corner ... except he had to run past the ladies tent - not sure if he was distracted by so much glamour, or if he was trying to impress someone in there . but the entire ground disappeared from under his feet and he was face first in the dirt without a hand on him. The rest of his game was exceptional and he got 1pt and was players player. 2pts Rob Magrath, 3pts Isaiah Fairless. First grade ran out with four of our u19s in the backline, Reece Jacobs and Michael Houssenloge making their run on debuts. In one of our best performances of the season it was 28-0 lead at the break. More solid play in the 2nd half and a final score of 42-10. Two other young players made their first grade debuts from the bench Jack Magriplis & Oscar Bath. Kye Blair in his second start in 1sts at #9 worked fantastically well with Reece Jacobs at #10, combined age of 35 and they played like veterans - Reece making use of the smooth ball delivery to show off his smart passing game and effective running. Michael Houssenloge on the wing made the most of every opportunity and Adam Chettle scored the opening try. A good day out for the future of the Club! Tries to Matt Anderson (2), Elliot Dawkins, Kye Blair, Reece Jacobs & Adam Chettle. Dylan Cadogan perfect from the kicking tee with 6 conversions. 1pt Luke Sheridan & Michael Houssenloge, 2pts Reece Jacobs, 3pts Kye Blair with Reece Jacobs the players player. Next week Seniors home to The Lakes, and a chance to finish the season on a high with good results against a Club that is in the top two in 2nds & 3rds and fighting for fourth in 1sts. Cheers Boys and Girls.
