Juniors wrap - Day started at Heazlett with the u15s Barbarians showing off their new jerseys for the first time. The gear looked great and boys put in a big effort against a strong opposition going down 12-40. Finley Brown backed up his recent selection in the Country squad with a man of the match performance. The 16s followed that with a nail-biter, just missing out 8-12. The 17s continued their strong work this year, didn't quite get the result, but a lot of good work duri...ng the game showed the will be ready when the games get serious in the finals. 0-14 in that one. Over at the Haven and at Ettalong the 7s, 8s and 9s all had a great day out. The u7 White also got a run at half time of 1st grade and left the field to huge applause from the big crowd. Comp matches started with the u10s who picked up a good 22-0 result over the Terrigal Blue, u11s kept it going with a 15-10 win over Terrigal., u12s competed well against last year premiers before going down 0-22. The u13s got Sharks back on top with a 5-0 win in what must have been a nailbiter. Great news from that game is that Liam Brettoner was found to have no serious injury after his trip to hospital and is now home and feeling good! Final game at the Haven was the u14s and in another close game our boys went down 0-10. Overall a good day for the Juniors, made better by the news on Liam.

Terrigal Day .. not much else needs to be written? Games start at Heazlett at 8am with the u15 Barbarians, 9am the u16s and 10:10 the u17s. 19s at 11;20, 3s at 12:30, 2s at 1:40 and the big game kicks off at 3pm. Over at the Haven 8am start there as well with u7s, with games running through to the u14s at 1pm. A couple of the young teams need to play away, the under 7 white and u8 green are both at Ettalong starting at 8:30. All juniors and parents make sure you get back to Heazlett, if you are new to the Club, Avoca v Terrigal is the biggest day in regional rugby in NSW - a huge crowd and great Rugby all day. This weekend the crowd will be even bigger than usual with a lot of older players returning for the reunions of the 1975, 1995 & 2005 1st grade premiership teams, as well as the 2005 2nds & 3rds Premiers who were part the first ever Central Coast triple crown. See you all there! Cheers Boys!!
Seniors at home ended with a couple of wins, and a lot of respect for the crew from Northlakes Slade Park, most of whom had to play both grades on the day. They didn't let up at any time, and then afterwards showed their respect for the spirit of Rugby by staying back for a few drinks and a feed at the Clubhouse. As always, everyone well looked after all day by the amazing Janelle Hall, and her canteen helpers Lorna Latham & Michelle Ritchie ... with William Ritchie and Caro...lyn Sturgess, Kerrie Yates & Kylie Vawdon ensuring there were no dry arguments.
1sts had a big win, highlight being 4 tries, players player and 1pt to Blake Jacob. 3pts to Chad Martin who loved being back in the forwards, 2pts to Joshua Fash Meadham, and 1pt to debutante Tyler Mcmanus. Despite a big miss from in front with his first attempt Dylan Hardaker got the radar right with 11 conversions. Much closer in the 2s who had a 39-10 victory, though the broken leg to our new player in his first match meant our thoughts were less on the result and more on his welfare. (He is comfortable now - with an operation tomorrow, we will you keep you updated.) 3 tries, players player and 3pts to Jordan Huszarek, 1pt to Paul Leef, Tom Cole scored a try and 2 conversions. Leaving the best to last Stephen Lamb showed some great skills in getting across the tryline THREE times, life member Brian Goffett is claiming that is a record for a grade prop .. can anyone recall a better effort? The u19s bounced back from last weeks big loss to really stretch the red hot Ourimbah squad. They are starting to look like a team and the season has a long way to go, expect to see a lot more improvement! 3pts to Sam Evans, 2pts to Bailey Hayes, back in the boots after a season off and a national rowing title, 1pt to Tyler Mcmanus. Players player was u17s 2nd rower Michael Hobden who also scored the only try in the 5-19 loss - thanks to all of the u17s who helped out the u19s today! We also saw lots of great Juniors rugby, highlight being the 2 games of u7s warming up the crowd before the 2nds - lots of future Seniors Sharks in those young boys! The u14s had a strong win over Warnervale and the u16s were exceptional in claiming a victory over Terrigal. u8s & u9 opened the day with lots of great running rugby. Next week is the bye for everyone for the long weekend and then we return on the 13th with Terrigal at the Sharkpool. Cheers Boys |
