The weather stayed good and the quality of rugby matched the day at Ettalong against Woy Woy. A couple of close losses and a couple of big wins for the Seniors. u19s started off as a fairly close contest, but our boys got better as the game went on and finished with a 71-12 win. 3 tries, 2 conversions and the 3pts to Thomas Starkey, 2 tries and players player to Conor Redmond, 2 tries and a conversion to Josh Davies. Tries to Max Stewart, Ethan Fullagar, Ash Sim & Blake Heron. Conversions to Matt Ritchie (2), Ethan Fullagar, Rhys Stratton, & Blake Heron. 2pts to Ethan Fullagar & 1pt Ryan Newcombe. Thirds were facing a team with a sharp backline and a very big pack. In the end they got extremely close and a couple of better bounces might have changed the 7-14 result. One of the highlights was a sensational tackle from Chris Lewis on one of their big boppers, definitely a "wow" moment. Our scoring was a penalty try, converted by Nathan Brown. 3pts to Sam So'oialo, 2pts Ben Barrington, 1pt Tod Wadey & Justin Thomas. Players player Chris Oakes. 2nds kept their mid season turnaround going with a strong 36-17 win. Lots of good players right across the field and always seemed to have the game under control. Harry Watkins in only his 2nd game of the season turned it on for 3 tries, other tries to Chris Peihopa and Nathan Brown. 3 conversions to Luke McPhie, 1 conversion and a penalty to Nathan Brown. 3pts to captain Shaun Thompson, 2pts Paul Leef, 1pt Jared Fitzsimmons with Nathan Brown getting the players player. Then on to the big game, where we got away to a great start and had a 12-0 lead very early in proceedings. They replied with 2 tries of their own and penalty right on half time gave them 17-12 lead at the break. The 2nd half was much tighter and highlighted by some exceptional goal line defence from the Sharks early in the piece. When we were first to score again the 19-17 lead was looking very good. But they finished with a try and a penalty to get the win 19-25. That returns the David Steele Cup to Woy Woy after we had claimed it in the first round. 1 try, 3pts and players player to Pete Steele, a try to Justin Staben, a try and 1pt to Jack Booker, 2 conversions to Dylan Hardaker with 2 pts to Joshua Fash Meadham. A big day for Luke Wiseman called up from the u19s for his first start in 1sts. Another u19 Harry Watkins had his first time in 1sts when he came on as a reserve in the 2nd half. The closes loss bonus points in 1sts and 3rds might be very important in those tight competitions.
Have to mention the great news from the older Juniors, with the u16s winning , possibly for the first time in comp ages, against Woy Woy. While the u17s maintained their good form with a win against Gosford. Next week Seniors at home against Hornsby. Cheers Boys! This weekend our Seniors travel to Ettalong Oval to play Woy Woy. We escaped a loss with a brilliant 2nd half in the first round, hopefully less heroics will be needed to take a win this time. The ladder is very close, we are leading and Woy Woy in 5th, but only 5pts behind us. 2nds are finding form, and like all of their 2nd round games this is a 'must win', currently equal 6th with Woy Woy. 3rds also took the ladder lead after last week, and need to keep winning to hold that spot. 19s are one place ahead of Woy Woy and a win really is needed to get the boys heading in the right direction. Day for us there starts at 9:00 with the u16s, our u17s are playing Gosford at the Showground at 10:10, then the u19s lead into the full day at Ettalong from 11:20.
Other Juniors are mainly at Heazlett from 8am with the u7 Gold, u7 white, u8 gold, u9, u10, u12 & 13s at the Sharkpool. The u7 green & u8 green are at Ourimbah and the u11s playing Warnervale at Woongarrah. Byes for the u14s & u15 Barbarians. Saturday might be the last day of reasonable weather before it gets very cold, so get out to watch some of the Sharks teams go around. At Ettalong it is also their Family Day' so bring down the kids as there will be a lot of fun stuff for them to get involved with. Good luck to all our players, have fun! Cheers Boys! A full day at The Sharkpool v Warnervale. The u16s got us off to a great start with a big 54-5 win, some great running rugby on show. Then the u17s reversed last weeks result and took a 11-5 win over the competition leaders. They have had a lot of close losses this year and it was great to see them finish the stronger and wrap up the game with a late try. The u19s had an off day and ended up on the wrong end of a 0-33 result. Too many missing training sessions, time to s...tart showing up to get the teamwork happening. 3pts to Rhys Stratton, 2pts & players player Sam Evans, 1pt Luke Wiseman. The 3rds were in a tight game before getting a very handy 21-12 win over the team in second place behind them. tries to David Gee, Jesse Jackson & Nathan Brown - who converted all 3. Nathan had a big day getting the 3pts and players player, 2pts to Paul Concar, 1 pt to Daniel Ranson & Grant Pavett who gave a great full game effort. 2nds backed up their good form last week with a strong 33-12 win over a team well ahead of them on the ladder, still a lot of room for improvement but good to see smiles from coaches Milton Rimene & Grant Russell. Huge day for Adam Winter with 2 tries, 3pts and players player. Other tries to Paul Leef, Jordan Huszarek & Luke Wiseman. Luke McPhie converted 4 of them. 2pts to Cameron Shaw and 1pt Mitch Mitchell.
This season a new trophy between the two Clubs was created, honouring two foundation members of our Clubs. The Steve Woods-Andy Hoban Seniors Cup being awarded to the Club ahead on aggregate points through all 4 grades on the day. Leading into 1sts the Sharks were 3pts behind, so something extra on the line when the big boys ran out. We got away to a quick start and the 14-0 lead looked like the beginning of a much bigger result. But things didn't turn out that way and tries either side of half time to Warnervale had the score at 14-10. It stayed that way deep into the 2nd half before a penalty eased some, but not all of the pressure. The defence held up and we walked off with a 17-10 win. Tries to Stephen Lamb (try scoring machine!) & Emile Thomas, 2 conversions and a penalty to Dylan Hardaker. 3pts to Emile, 2pts Chad Martin, 1pt and players player to Blake Jacob. We claimed the Woods-Hoban Cup and thanks to all the Warnervale boys who came back for the presentations and a few drinks. Next week - tough away games v Woy Woy at Ettalong. Cheers Boys! |
