Another day of mixed results for the Senior Sharks teams. First grade came out firing and played as well as they have all season. Keeping pressure on the comp leaders in both attack & defence, and with a try right on the break went to half time with an 18-12 lead. Ourimbah upped their game early in the second half and four quick tries changed the game completely. Our boys regrouped and for the last twenty only conceded one more try, but weren't able to add to our own scoreline and it finished at 18-41. Those 20mins after half time were the difference, the rest of the match was fairly even, so lots of positives to take into the remainder of the season where wins are going to be essential. Harrisen Bowcock & Mitchell Jacob got the tries, with Shaun Townsend kicking a conversion and 2 penalties. 1pt Luke Sheridan & Shaun Townsend, 2pts Liam Donsworth, 3pts and players player Mitchell Jacob. Seconds came through a really tough game, finishing strongly on the back of an Emile Thomas masterclass. Midway through the second half we were down 10-26, already Emile had been his usual strong self, but then he just went to another level and seemed to be calling for the ball and running it destructively every time he could get back behind a ruck. No different defensively, there will be some very sore bodies at Ourimbah this morning from the strength of his tackling. It wasn't a one man show though, everyone lifted around him to give their best team performance of the season in the 30-26 win. Tries to Mitchell Bartholomew Beames, Emile Thomas & Kye Blair with Will Byrne converting all tries and adding 3 penalties. 1pt Luke McPhie, 2pts Kye Blair, 3pts and players player Emile Thomas. Thirds tried hard, but were up against a team in form and playing well organised rugby. The 0-40 score didn't reflect the actual competition on the field, they took their opportunities and we weren't able to. 1pt Matthew Malakou in to 10 from the wing, and Sam Sooialo, 2pts Joel Delaney, 3pts Nick Rendall. Players player in his first game back after a nasty workplace injury Blake Jacob. The u19s played comp leaders Woy Woy and both teams played great rugby scoring two tries each, our kicking was the difference in the 20-10 scoreline. Got to mention Sebastian Eguia, a fantastic natural #7 who due to his skills has played in plenty of other positions and in this game found himself in the middle of the scrum for the first time. Did his job and more, despite an ankle injury that took him from the field was still there at the end of the day doing more than his fair share of the cleanup work - a great Club man! Ben Francis a try, Reece Piepers a try 2 conversions and 2 penalties. 1pt Henry Cumming, 2pts Reece Piepers & Oscar Bath reliving his young junior days at halfback, 3pts Max Finn & Sebastian Eguia. Players player was shared by Sebastian Eguia & Reece Piepers. The Womens 7s continued their run of wins and their steady improvement with two good victories, despite both games being shortened a little due to injuries. Thanks to Deborah Morris unable to play due to her own injury for her professional care of our hurt opponents. In the first game it was 12-0 with Summer Witt scoring all the points via 2 tries and a conversion. In the second game Elana Withnall scored 2 tries that were converted by Inge Visser & Summer Witt for the 14-0 win. 1pt Sarah Carter, 2pts Hannah Stewart, 3pts Summer Witt and Jessie Jensen the players player. Good luck to all of our Junior teams playing in the Cauliflower Cup games at Scone on Sunday. Next week .. Terrigal, Seniors the Haven, Juniors at The Sharkpool, plan ahead to be there we will need all your support at the grounds!
Seniors games only this weekend, and all of them at the Sharkpool. It is going to be a testing day playing Ourimbah in all grades except u19s, where our boys take on the competition leaders Woy Woy at 11:00. Opening game is the first womens 7s match kicking off at 1040, and after the u19s the 2nd game kicks off at 12:10. Thirds are in 5th place and really need a win against the competition leaders in their 12:30 game. At 1:40 second grade are on and it is a very tight comp - while Ourimbah are second and we are 5th, with a good win we can catch them. First grade will be glad to be back at home for the 3:00 kickoff after a run of away games. Like 2nds it is a really close ladder in the top grade, a win tomorrow against the runaway comp leaders would make a huge difference to our season. So with everyone not having to worry about kids sport, lets get a massive home crowd to cheer on the Sharks - get all our Juniors in their Club shirts, make it a big sea of green from as early in the day as you can get there! Cheers Boys & Girls!
Another day of mixed results for the Senior Sharks. Wins to the Womens 7s and 2nds, while 1sts and u19s missed out. At Ourimbah the u19s were behind early and an injury to an opponent meant the game was called off when they were behind 3-14. I believe the Ourimbah player was treated by the ambos and should be fine, which is good news. Reece Piepers kicked the penalty. No points this week due to the short game. At a very cold Hornsby the Women's 7s continued to improve and secured bonus point wins in both games. The first was 34-5 with tries to Elana Withnall (2), Taylah Welsh (2), Inge Visser & Summer Witt - Summer and Inge each kicked a conversion. In the second match tries to Elana Withnall (2), Mýa Harvey, Inge Visser & Taylah Welsh, Inge landed 3 conversions. On the day 1pt Ally Woutersz & Taylor Bateman (in her first game in the Opens), 2pts Taylah Welsh, 3pts Jessie Jensen with Taylah Welsh the players player. Seconds was really tight game, at half time we had 10-7 lead and a late penalty took it out to a 13-7 victory. Tries to Nathan Pickup & Matt Peebles with Rob Magrath kicking the penalty. 1pt Rob Magrath, 2pts Tim Newton, 3pts Joshua Fash Meadham & Kyle Oakes (who found himself out in the centres), Players player was Joshua Fash Meadham. First grade faced a much improved team who seemed to score every time they were given a chance, while we had difficulty getting the points to match our possessions. It was 0-19 at half time and soon after 0-26. Our team fought hard and at one point it seemed a victory was possible. But that wasn't to be and at full time it was 19-31. A big highlight was a special guest appearance by backs coach Lenny Beckett as we needed a replacement centre. First touch and the old fast feet were at work and he was in for a try. Unfortunately his calf didn't like him reaching top speed and it went while he was still 5 metres out and battling the defence, but great effort to force his way over. The other tries to Shaun Townsend & Mitchell Jacob with Shaun Townsend drop kicking two conversions. For the second week in a row Liam Donsworth took the 3pts and players player - he is playing exceptional rugby at the moment - and you can be sure he will keep improving to even higher levels. 2pts Shaun Townsend and 1pt Tom Russell on his return to first grade. Congratulations to Jobe Graham & Finn Flaherty on making their first grade starting debuts on the wings. Next week Juniors have their school holiday bye and all our Senior teams are home at Sharkpool. Everyone playing Ourimbah except the u19s who face Woy Woy.
A fair bit of travel for Sharks teams this week. Friday night had the u16s & u17s playing at Ettalong and the u15/u17 girls at Joseph Banks. On Saturday the grade & women's teams head to Hornsby, who dont have 3rds, so after a late time change for the women the day starts there with the womens 7s at 1230 and 120, followed by 2nds at 1:40 and 1sts at 300pm. The u19s are at Ourimbah at 1120. In the Juniors the u7s to u10s are all at Heazlett with the first game starting at 8am. u11s have a bye, u12s 11am at Ettalong, u13s 1020 at Ourimbah and u15s 920 at Joseph Banks. Winter rugby temperatures return tomorrow, cheering on a Sharks team will keep you warm! Good luck to all Sharks teams, cheers Boys & Girls!
