It was a big first home round for Seniors v Warnervale today, another hot one for the players to sweat through! It opened with the u16s defeating Terrigal 26-0, the first time they have beaten that team at Heazlett .. and thanks to terrigal for the game, they came in as late replacements when expecting to have a bye. u17s carried on the great form of last week and held on for a 15-12 victory. The u19s also backed up their win last week with a 15-3 scoreline this time. tries to Tim Newton (but really scored byCooper Elliott) & Ethan Fullagar with a conversion and penalty to Isaac Barnes. 1pt Ben Harding & Lockie Mackintosh, 2pts Ethan Fullagar, 3pts and players player Lochie Peruch. Thirds had a tight match before getting the result 12-5. Tries to Tod Brien and a great run through most of the opposition by Blake Heron. When Chris Lewis converted Tod's try it might have been the oldest combined age in scoring 7pts we have seen at the sharkpool! great effort men! 1pt Daniel Ranson & Justin Thomas - who also was players player. 2pts Damon Boxsell, making a return to the Sharks and 3pts Chris Lewis. 2nds found form much earlier than last season and looked very polished running out winners 56-0. Tries toGareth Brown (2), Cameron Shaw (2) Patrick Wheatley, Sam Evans, Rhys Stratton, Jordan Huszarek(2) and Stephen Ford who also kicked 3 conversions. 1pt Patrick Wheatley & Stephen Ford, 2pts Nathan Pickup, 3pts and players player John Cole. It's a moveable feast with teams still entering and leaving the comp. Good luck on Saturday and cheers boys! This Saturday Seniors have their first home game of the season v Warnervale. As well as competition points, the Clubs play for the Woods/Hoban Cup - named after Steve Woods & Andy Hoban - foundations members of our Clubs. The winner of the trophy is decided on aggregate for/against through all three grades and u19s. So every minute of every game is important to the Club! You will notice a difference in the goal post pads, sponsors signs on them now, we welcome Steve Nixon of McGrath Real Estate and thank him for his increased sponsorship of the Sharks. (thanks to our professional models for donating their time).
Games start at 9am with the u16s playing Terrigal, this was originally scheduled to be Warnervale but they have had to drop out and fortunately Terrigal agreed to play a comp game so they dont have a bye. u17s kickoff at 10:10, followed by the u19s at 11:20. The 3rds at 12:30 and 2nds at 1:40. Big game kicks off at 3:00pm. Should be a great day of rugby right from the start and close competition in all the matches. Make an effort to get there during the day - and definitely be there for the main game. Junior game details in seperate post, good luck to all the Sharks on the weekend! Cheers Boys!! A hot day at Ettalong for us spectators, apparently a bit warm on the field as well ... Even results over the day, with 1sts taking out the big game and winning back the David Steele Cup. Day started with the u16s being very narrow losers and the u17s beating a Woy Woy team that has previously won every premiership they have contested. Deborah Morris will post full Junior results. The u19s started the season with a big win 50-0 over the home side. No hogs, 8 players each scoring a try: Tim Newton, Justin Gilmore, Sam Evans, Lachie Peruch, Isaac Barnes (also kicked 5 conversions), Jordan Davies, Lockie Mackintosh & Tyler Mcmanus. 1pt Jordan Davies & Isaac Barnes 2pts Sam Evans (playing at #7) and 3pts in a great debut for the Club - Lochie Peruch. Players player to the other new player Isaac Barnes. Thirds had a fantastic turnout of players, now we just need them to get to a couple training sessions to get themselves sorted. It was a 7-38 loss with Liam Meadham getting the try, converted by Chris Lewis. 1pt Chris Lewis, 2pts Patrick Wheatley, 3pts and players player to mature age debutante Tod Brien. It probably was the one that got away for 2nds who went down 20-22. Stephen Ford got one try with Mick Arnold scoring 2 as well as a conversion and a penalty. 1pt Nathan Pickup, 2pts Matt Hipwell, 3pts Rhys Stratton. Matt Hipwell was players player.
In the top grade our forwards were immense, defense was fantastic and the scrums totally dominant until they became uncontested. The 10-3 halftime lead turned into a 38-10 victory. Tries to Luke Sheridan, Mitchell Jacob & Jimmy Latham with Nathan Brown not missing a shot with 3 conversions and 3 penalties. 1pt to Harry Watkins, Mitchell Jacob & Matt Norman, 2pts Chad Martin, 3pts Joshua Fash Meadham. Chad Martin was players player. The special awards went to Joshua Fash Meadham as player of the match and Luke Sheridan as Most Valuable Avoca player. For Juniors: A fantastic start to the season for our juniors! The majority of our teams played Woy Woy at home in the baking heat, with a few teams playing away. At the end of the day, in the competition ages we had 7 wins (including a forfeit) and 1 very close loss. U10s beat WW 42-10, 11s won against WW 26-0, 13s overcame WW 39-34, 14s had a resounding victory over a tenacious WW 99-0, 15s beat Gosford 45-5, 16s lost to WW by one conversion only 21-19 ( a remarkable effort by the boys - Grips and the boys should be applauded for building up the team after playing Baa baas last year), and a win to the mighty u17s against WW 20-17. Cheers boys. Next week Seniors at the Sharkpool v Warnervale. Cheers Boys! |
