Last friday night was the 10 year reunion of our 2006 Premiership winning 1st and 2nd grade teams. 2006 was the year that Avoca Beach 1st grade were named the NSW Waratahs Team Of The Year - an honour usually reserved for one of the Shute Shield teams.
Another amazing day at the Sharkpool - a HUGE crowd to cheer on the teams and also to offer support to Janelle Hall. The early game had the u16s finishing their regular season with a good win over Terrigal and taking home the minor premiership. The u8s had some serious fun after that! Over at Woy Woy Oval the u19s had a big win over a team that has had a difficult year, hopefully Woy Woy u19s come back stronger next season, they are important to the competition.Tries to Connor Kondrat (3), Lochie Peruch(2), Isaac Barnes (2), Cooper Elliott, Ben Harding, Sam Evans,Lockie Mackintosh, Michael Hobden,Jordan Sanchez, Tristan Morris-bowyer, & Jack Magriplis. Conversions: Isaac Barnes (4), Lochie Peruch(2), Cooper Elliott, Justin Gilmore & Sam Evans and Isaac Barnes kicked a field goal. 1pt Ben Harding, 2pts Lochie Peruch, 3pts and players playerCooper Elliott. Back at heazlett it was time for the thirsty thirds to have their last run of the season and they finished in sty;le with a 40-5 win. 2 tries toJosh Parish & Deon Rangi and tries to Thomas Starkey & Tyler Mcmanus,Nathan Smith converted 5 of them. 1pt to front rowers Stephen Lamb &Connor Starkey, 2pts Josh Parish, 3pts and players player to Deon Rangi. Special mention to Rick Veitch who showed up to have some time in the front row with Stephen Lamb and fairly soon after running on as a reserve was on his way to get 4 stitches in the top of his head. I see he has already posted selfies of the doctor at work! Seconds need a bonus point win to guarantee a spot in the finals and the 45-12 result got them into 3rd place on the ladder. Tries to Nathan Pickup (2), Rhys Stratton, Matt Norman,Cameron Shaw, Paul Leef & Gareth Brown. conversions Sam Evans (3), Ash Roberts & Harry Watkins. 1pt Matt Ritchie & Ash Roberts, 2pts Paul Leef, 3pts Sam Evans. Players player was shared by Nathan Pickup & Matt Ritchie. Then first grade - also playing for position in the finals - and in a tough, hard game we were ahead but only just 14-12 at half time. It was just as tough in the second half and only really wrapped up when Max Stewart powered over for the 4th and bonus point try. That took us to 2nd position on the ladder and major semi v terrigal. The other tries to Pete Steele, Matt Anderson & Nathan Brown - who also converted all 4 tries and finished the game with a field goal. 1pt Damon Boxsell & Pete Steele, 2ptsJulian Bacigalupo, 3pts Luke Sheridan with Julian Bacigalupo taking the players player. The big crowd stayed back for the presentations and a strong contingent of Kariong people added to a great atmosphere as many things had to be covered. A plaque honouring our late Club president Greg Pierce was unveiled. Pete Steele was awarded a framed jersey to honour his 200 first grade games and then the big raffle was drawn - with just enough time left to watch the Jesse Reupena Parahi jersey auction wrap up with a big bid of $710 winning this memento.
Thankyou to everyone who bought some raffle tickets or placed a bid on the auction, you have made wonderful contribution to a fantastic cause. Details of the raffle winners in a separate post. Thanks to ALL the volunteers on the day, only a terrigal day would have been bigger - the bar queue always seemed to be stretching a long way! And thanks to all who came along to support our players on this very important day - you did make a difference! Next week, minor semi finals .. Cheers Boys! Thank you Michael Magriplis for organising Wallaby Tatafu Polota-Nau to help out with the u16s tonight. A real treat.
Avoca Beach Rugby would like to thank Tatafu for taking the time, on his night off, to meet some of our players. |
