We are very excited that Nathaniel Thomas (u12’s) has been selected to represent PSSA in Rugby Union. This Friday all proceeds from the meat raffles at the Avoca Beach Bowling Club will go towards supporting him. It’s a great chance to support our major sponsor (the Bowlo) as well as Nathaniel and his next stage of rep. The Meat Raffles start at 6pm. Buy $10 and get $20 of tickets. It’s a fun night. Hope to see you as many Sharks there to support this wonderful rugby family !!!!

What a great day for Rugby it was today, lots of great play to match the perfect weather! At The Sharkpool the u14s played their first game in the new combined 14s/15s comp against a very good team from The Entrance, even so great to see the sportsmanship of lending some of our players as their team was short. Not a win on the scoreboard, but one for the spirit of rugby, The Womens 7s started the Seniors day with their first win of the season! 17-10 with tries to Inge Visser, Renee Staben & Summer Witt and Rachael Elcoate kicked a conversion. The second match was a nailbiter with full time arriving when we were in deep in their half trying to break the nil all deadlock. The ladies are improving every week and will kick on from the good results today. 1pt Jessie Jensen, 2pts Sarah Carter, 3pts Summer Witt with the players player going to Jessie Jensen. The u19s played a crossover match against Newcastle Wanderers and our opponents come out strongly and quickly got to a 12-0 lead. Our boys tightened up their play and and got right back into the game. Unfortunately just before half time there was a possible serious injury and caring for the injured Wanderers players on field meant the game finished just before half time. Good news from the hospital later in the day, all appeared good, he was just waiting for some xrays to confirm that nothing serious had occurred. Huge thanks to Deborah Morris who was first to this injury and an earlier similar incident in the womens game, and then to Stan Priestley for adding his skills to both situations. Also Frank Latham for the benefit of his experience - he will never be fully retired. Well done to all, and thanks from our opponents for the way our Club handled everything that had happened. Second grade scored early and Warnervale had a quick reply, but after that they just kept playing good Rugby and won going away 26-7 to get a bonus point as well. Tries to Aidan King, Jobe Graham, Tom Russell & Cooper Elliott in his first game back from injury. Matt Kiddle kicked 3 conversions. 1pt Liam Vanezis & Jobe Graham, 2pts Cooper Elliott, 3pts and players player in a fantastic performance by Tom Russell. First Grade were led out by Elliot Dawkins in his first match as captain and he ended the day with a perfect 1 from 1 record. Another good win against tough opponents, this time lots of tries, but not much success with the kicks. We had a 4 try bonus point by half time and wrapped the match up 31-19. Tries to Mick Arnold(2), Luke Sheridan, Pete Steele, & Mitchell Jacob with Dylan Cadogan landing 2 penalties. 1pt Pete Steele & Liam Donsworth, 2pts Mitchell Jacob, 3pts Dylan Cadogan with Mitchell Jacob getting the players player for his tough defence and some runs where he was following the lead Emile Thomas and preferring to run over opponents who happened to be in his way. A good turnout after the game, big crowd from Warnervale for the presentations where we held on to the Hoban-Woods Cup for games between our Clubs. And then to wrap up the night and get the biggest cheer of the day, the boat race team reclaimed the 'Golden Schooner', much to the relief of Club Captain Jake McPhie. Thanks to our match day sponsor Josh Davies of Design Garages. Next week mens Grade teams are away to Gosford, the women 7s are away to Woy Woy and the u19s have a bus trip to Newcastle to play Hamilton Hawks in the morning. Cheers Boys!
Congratulations to Eden McQueen, named in the NSW CHS 2nd XV to play in Schools Championships. Another step forward in Eden's representative career, a great young man as well as a great player. Well deserved!
app.education.nsw.gov.au/sport/Events/ViewResults?eventId=2383 This Saturday is another very important home round for our Senior teams. The day starts at 9:30 with our u15s (newly moved up an age from u14s) playing The Entrance. Following them at 10:40 it is the first women's 7s game v Warnervale .. then a break until the 2nd women's game at midday. At 12:20 the u19s play a crossover match against Wanderers from Newcastle. Then the 2nds against Warnervale at 1:40 and the main game at 3pm. The results of 1s and 2s are added together and the total for and against will determine who wins the 'Founders Cup' that is always on offer when our two Clubs meet.
The Juniors are at a few venues. On Friday night the Boys 16s & 17s are at Woongarrah and the Girls 15s & 17s at JBO. On Saturday the u7s, both u8s, u10s, u11s & u12s are at Woongarrah, the u9 Green & u13s are at the Haven and the u9 Gold at Kariong. Lots of great games to choose from, the weather is perfect for spending some on the sidelines, so hope to see good crowds wherever the Sharks are taking the field. Cheers Boys! |
