The annual road trip to Hornsby was a very successful one for the Sharks senior teams. The day started at Woy Woy Oval with the u19s taking on the locals who have a strong Colts squad this year. It was a great result with our boys taking out the match 39-12. 2 tries to Cooper Elliott & Jordan Sanchez and tries to Henry Cumming & Jaxson Stratton .. also a penalty try. Conversions to Isaac Barnes & Jobe Graham. 1pt Isaac Barnes, 2pts Harry Fortey, 3pts and players to Cooper Elliott.
Thirds was a great mix of young and old and they put on a really impressive display in winning 69-0. Two tries to Angus Ford, Cameron Shaw & David Riley (fantastic to see David back in Sharks colours a few years after a really bad injury in 1st grade - and getting the chance to be on the field with his great mate Julian Bacigalupo) Tries to Jay Blance, Thomas Starkey, Gareth Brown (had to mention him!), Dylan Hardaker & Malik Poole. Will Byrne landed 5 conversions and Shane McMillan two. 1pt Angus Ford, 2pts WIll Byrne, 3pts and players player in one of the best games I have ever seen him play - Jay Blance. Second grade was a much tighter event at 29-7, where we always had the advantage but couldn't dominate the scoring. 2 tries and 3 conversions to Damon Boxsell, tries to props Matthew Ritchie & Ash Roberts. Dylan Hardaker also kicked a penalty. 1pt Brad Bunce Mitchell, 2pts and players player Damon Boxsell, 3pts Gerard Aldrick who was brilliant in always making ground from fullback.
Then on to the big game where the Sharks took control early and maintained the pressure to take a 64-0 victory for their first win of the season. A big day for Rob Magrath, playing against his old Club after joining us when he moved to the Coast, he was the only player who needed treatment for blood so definitely was in the middle of all the action. 3 tries to Patrick Wheatley who was also voted players player, 2 tries each to Luke Sheridan & Elliot Dawkins, tries to Bradd Sheridan, Mitchell Jacob & Nathan Brown. Nathan landed 7 conversions, Blake Jacob kicked one .. and unfortunately Jake McPhie missed his big opportunity to land a conversion! 1pt to Mitchell Jacob & Blake Jacob (who combined in a fantastic tackle late in the match to save a certain try, though the sight of them both cramping up immediately after was taking the twins thing a bit far). 2pts Luke Sheridan & Patrick Wheatley, 3pts the reward for a huge running game from Joshua Fash Meadham.
No Senior games on the 29th, a general bye for Country Championships, then a run of three weeks where we play the other three teams from the 2016 finals. Starting with Ourimbah at the Sharkpool on the 6th May, then Terrigal at The Haven on 13 May and Woy Woy at heazlett on 20 May.
Cheers Boys!

After the break for Easter the Senior Rugby resumes with our top 3 grades making the trip to Hornsby (Mark Taylor Oval (previously Waitara Oval). It isn't much more of a drive than getting to Warnervale - so why not make the trip down to support the teams. 3rds kickoff at 12:30, 2nds at 1:40 and the 1s at 3pm. The post game hospitality at the Hornsby Inn is of the highest quality, worth the trip alone! The u19 Colts are at Woy Woy Oval, kicking off against the home team at 11:20 - if you need a Rugby fix and don't want a long drive - that is the place to be. Should be a top quality match between a couple really skillful teams.
Juniors also resume with their last round of trial days before the comp kicks off on the 29th. u7s & u8s are at Slade Park, u9s-u13s are at Heazlett and u14-u17s are at Ettalong. Should be lots of fun for everyone!
Good luck to all our teams , Cheers Boys!

PicturePat Wheatley made his run on debut in 1st Grade, here being presented with his jersey by his grandfather, Sharks life member Jeff King (pic: Josh Davies)
We expected a day of hard Rugby at Kariong and it certainly was just that. Started off well with wins in the 19s and 3rds, but they took the wins in 2s and 1s. u19s had their first hit out of the season and showed new coach Max Malkin that he has plenty of potential to work with in winning 22-19. Tries to Declan Tancred, Jobe Graham & Tristan Morris-bowyer, with Jaxson Stratton kicking a conversion and Isaac Barnes kicking a conversion and a penalty. 1 pt to Harry Fortey, 2pts Declan Tancred, 3pts and players player to Harrisen Bowcock who was right there whenever hard work needed to be done. The switch from prop to #8 worked well!
Thirds backed up last weeks tight win with a much stronger effort and took out the game 33-0. Tries to Jared Fitzsimmons, Nathan Smith, Shane McMillan, Zak Michael Johns & Jay Blance. Conversions to Shane McMillan (2), Will Byrne and Steve Farrell. 1pt to front rowers Justin Thomas & Will Grassby, 2pts Will Byrne who also was voted players player. With 3pts on debut to new #8 Steve Farrell.
Seconds were always trying to come back from behind the scoreline, but couldn't catch up and eventually went down 14-35. Tries to Jordan Sanchez & Paul Leef, with conversions to Ash Roberts & Nathan Smith. I have heard from Jordan Sanchez - it took 5 stitches to close up his eyebrow and he is fine.
In Firsts Kariong got off to a good start and had an early 12-0 lead. Some accurate penalty kicking by Nathan Brown (3) got us right back into at 9-12 midway through the second half. Then a great try to Mitchell Jacob got us to a 14-12 lead. Unfortunately that was the end of our scoring and a late converted try and a full time penalty for Kariong left the final score at 14-22. 1pt to Matt Anderson & Patrick Wheatley (making his run on 1st grade debut), 2pts to Blake Jacob, 3pts and players player to Bradd Sheridan.
The Juniors finally found some dry grounds playing 7s trial matches at Heazlett & Ettalong. By all reports a lot of fun and a great start to the season for those who played.
Next week is Easter and no rugby is played. Next game for Seniors is 22 April away at Hornsby. Cheers Boys!
