Another day of almosts .. and more improvement from the Womens 7s. Plus grade debuts of a couple of young backs from the u19s who have the potential to be long term first graders. Day started with the Womens 7s up against Woy Woy, who had only lost one game all season .. our girls doubled that and beat them in both games! In the first game it was 14-12 with tries to Elana Withnall & Summer Witt with Inge Visser converting both. The second game was an even better result 21-10 - tries to Elana Withnall, Summer Witt & Taylah Welsh, 2 conversions to Rachael Elcoate and 1 to Inge Visser. 1pt Summer Witt, 2pts Taylor Bateman, 3pts and players player Rachael Elcoate. Unfortunately Ourimbah u19s couldn't get a full team, so we got the forfeit win and played a trial 10 a side game, which gave everyone a bit of a run and left the boys all with a lot of energy for backing up the grade teams. Thirds had 10 of the u19s as starters and almost got the win before missing out 15-19. Highlight was the Grade debut of Reece Piepers at fullback, an u19 who is still qualified to play u17s, but was unconcerned by the step up - earning the 3pts and the players player as well as kicking a conversion and a penalty. A handy debut! Tries to Michael Houssenloge & Liam Vanezis. 1pt Sebastian Eguia, 2pts Harry Layton. Seconds was a real arm wrestle and 0-0 half time score was a good indication of game mainly played between the 22s. When Matt Kiddle scored a try converted by Rob Magrath it might have been enough but they replied with a try and a penalty and we missed out 7-8. The other big debut of the day was Reece Jacobs, who has been excelling at rep rugby getting his first grade time at #15. Like the other Reece he was instantly at home and received the 2pts as well as being voted players player. 1pt Tom Wood & Rhys Stratton, 3pts Matthew Ritchie. First grade ran out knowing big win was needed to keep in touch with the finals teams. Woy Woy came out hard and had a quick 14-0 lead. Then the Sharks started to take control and had replied with a couple of tries before half time, then two more after the half for a 24-14 lead. A couple of late tries and they fought back for a 24 all draw. Injuries did take a toll during the game and in the first half we lost Tom Russell with a bad ankle which gave Reece Jacobs a bigger day, now making his first grade debut and at #10. Again he slipped straight into the role, did his job well and even had 10mins at #9 while Patrick Wheatley was given a rest period by the ref. Tries to Patrick Wheatley, Mitchell Jacob, Adam Chettle & Matt Peebles 2 conversions by Shaun Townsend. 1pt Shaun Townsend, 2pts Reece Jacobs, 3pts and players player Mitchell Jacob. Next Saturday Seniors travel to Warnervale, except 3rds who have a bye
Last week was the Battle of the Beaches .. this week is the Battle of the Hospitals! Our fantastic sponsor Gosford Private Hospital up against Woy Woy's sponsor Brisbane Waters Private Hospital. Looking forward to a big crowd boost with plenty of staff members from both hospitals there to support their teams. Day at the Sharkpool kicks off with the Womens 7s at 10:40, followed by the u19s who play Ourimbah at 11:00 then the second Womens game at 12:10. Thirds are starting at 1230, followed by Seconds at 1:40 and the big game at 3:00. And it really is a big game, with 4 rounds left the Sharks need to win every match to make the finals series. Get there to support the team as they start the tough run home! Most of our Junior teams are at Ettalong Oval also playing Woy Woy, except the u9 Gold at Northlakes. The u15s have the bye and the u16s, u17s and Girls u15s & u17s played friday night. Good luck to all our Sharks teams tomorrow .. Cheers Boys & Girls
First off, thanks to all of the Sharks supporters who made the trip over the hill to cheer on our Senior teams today. Was a huge crowd and the players really appreciated having you there .. and loud! On a day where Club Coach Justin Staben had 18 names on his list of unavailable players for all grades a big thanks to all of the u19s who contributed all day for the Club. Congratulations to a young man with a big future Matt Peebles on his debut in 1sts at #8 where he had a great game, and Kye Blair joined him from the bench. There were another seven u19s who got on the field in 2nds and eleven in 3rds. Fresh off the plane exchange student Jacques Kinnison debuted for the Club in u19s and immediately put his hand up to help out the 3s, didnt take him long to adopt the Club spirit! Unfortunately in their own game the u19s just couldn't get anything to work for them and they went down 0-34. Prior to that game the Womens 7s took the only victory at The Haven for the Sharks. They started strongly and held on for a 19-17 win. Tries to Taylah Welsh, Elana Withnall & Summer Witt with Rachael Elcoate landing 2 conversions. In their second game they were down 0-5 when an unfortunate injury to an opposition player meant a wait for an ambulance and the game not getting to the second half. Good news is that the injured player is now home and recovering. 1pt Taylah Welsh, 2pts Elana Withnall, 3pts Hannah Stewart with players player shared between Mya Harvey & Summer Witt. Thirds started well and after an Oscar Bath try and Rylie Lewis sideline conversion were at 7-7, but that was it for their scoring and game finished at 7-42. While talking of ages, of the players used only three were in their twenties, five were 33 and over and the other twelve were 19 or younger. 1pt Glen Cahill & Harry Layton, 2pts Oscar Bath, 3pts Hayden Davies with Jacques Kinnison the players player. Seconds played well, but couldn't translate that into points and went down 5-24. Solomon Shepherd scored the try. 1pts Solomon Shepherd & Paul Farah, 2pts Tim Newton & Blake Jacob, 3pts Kye Blair with Blake Jacob the players player. First grade were down a converted try in the first few minutes then dominated the rest of the first half to go to the break leading 19-10. Then in the second half every little mistake was taken advantage of by Terrigal and a late flurry of tries inflated a scoreline that should have been much closer, 19-45. Tries to Tom Russell, Matt Anderson & Shaun Townsend. Dylan Cadogan had his first game at fullback, kicked 2 conversions, received 2 coach points and was voted players player - and if you saw the size and shape of his foot after the game you be amazed he could even walk, let alone play so strongly. 1pt Matt Anderson, 3pts in a classic performance Luke Sheridan. Next week seniors play Woy Woy at the Sharkpool. Well done the Waratahs!
Saturday is Terrigal Day! Juniors at The Sharkpool, Seniors & u15s at The Haven. Friday night rugby is the girls u15s/u17s tonight at Ourimbah, starting with the u15s at 630pm. Both boys games are off due to each Club being short of players in different age groups this week. At The Haven on Saturday the u15s start the day at 930 against Terrigal Blue. The the first of the womens 7s at 1040, the u19s at 11 and the second womens game at 1210. Thirds kickoff at 12:30 followed by seconds at 1:40 and the big game at 3:10 ( i think the u7s are playing a demo before 1sts - will have to confirm that). At the Sharkpool the day start with the u7s & u8s both kicking off at 800, with games right through the ages finishing with the u13s who start at 1230. That leaves plenty of time for all families to make their way to the Haven to cheer on our Senior teams. It is a day full of green v blue - make sure you have your Club gear on (polo shirts on sale in the canteen) or something green just to show who has the best supporters on the coast. Good luck to all our teams this weekend Cheers Boys & Girls!
