The scattered showers and cold wind made it feel very winter today at the Sharkpool. The u19s opened proceedings and played really good disciplined rugby against a very strong Ourimbah team with the scoreline being 10-36. We were short a lot of players (every year - same music festival!) but the u17s who stepped to fill in the gaps were fantastic. 1pt to Tim Newton, 2pts to Cooper Elliott, 3pts and players players player Michael Hobden. Harry Fortey was just wandering by and it took about 30 seconds to have him asking to borrow some boots for his first game of the season - and he scored our only try. Jack Magriplis converted that and also kicked a penalty. 2nds was tight game with a converted try each for the score of 7-7. Fortunately their late shot at penalty went astray so we could share the points. Patrick Wheatley scored the try and Stephen Ford converted it. 1pt Thomas Starkey, 2pts Liam Meadham 3pts and players player to Jonny Oz who shared players player with Tim Warwick. Then it was the big game and before a lot of people had noticed the game had kicked off we had scored a converted try! A solid first half where the execution was exceptional in the dodgy weather had us up 15-0 at the break. Ourimbah hit back early in the second half and got as close as 15-10, then we took control, scored 3 more tries and finished up winning 32-10. tries to Elliot Dawkins, Chad Martin, Mick Arnold, Matt Anderson & Nathan Brown who also kicked a converison and a penalty. Mitchell Jacob converted the last try of the game. 1pt to Sam Evans & Jake McPhie, 2pts Joshua Fash Meadham, 3pts Mitchell Jacob. Players player was shared between Blake Jacob & Sam Evans. He missed points, but Matt Anderson also had a huge game!
Thanks to all the 2nds players who stayed around in the cold conditions in case the call for reserves came, not needed this week but good to have you there and ready to go if needed.
As there were no 3rds this week, one of the weekly Mojito Jo's vouchers was put aside for Off-field Player of the Day and congratulations to Nathan Pickup for his exceptional work. From the start he was asking what he could do and was helping setup, on the BBQ, in the canteen and then as ground marshal keeping the official area under tight control. Well done Pixie! Big thanks to all the others who helped on the day, it is great to have you really involving yourselves in keeping the Club running so efficiently. Welcome to Paul Riley on his first day as BBQ manager, it looked to be running smoothly from where I was!
Next week another tough one v Gosford at The Sharkpool.. Cheers Boys!

This Saturday the Sharkpool is the venue for a visit from Ourimbah. u19s kick off at 11:20, then a short intermission as they don't have a 3rd grade. 2nds kickoff at 1:40 and 1sts at 3pm. Ourimbah are defending Premiers and undefeated this season in all 3 of those grades, so a good early season test for our teams. Make the effort to see as many of these games as you can, and if you have some spare time don't be afraid to volunteer to help out on the BBQ or in the canteen!
Junior gala days again this Saturday. Team managers have info for those teams who are playing.
Cheers Boys!

Only one competition game for the Sharks today, with the Thirds playing the Entrance at JBO. It was a hot day, but the game was not so hot. nil all at half time, then Luke Yates scored in the corner for a 5-0 lead that looked promising, but they tied up soon after. Not long before full time they scored a converted try to give us a 5-12 loss. 1pt Patrick Wheatley, 2pts Nathan Pickup, 3pts and players player Pete Steele in his first run of the season. Next week Ourimbah at the Sharkpool for 19s and grade, except 3rds - as Ourimbah have withdrawn from presidents Cup (3rds). Though we will need all 3rds players there to help the other teams! Cheers Boys!

Patrick Wheatley has been an important part of our Club for many many years, on Saturday he came off the bench to have his first experience of 1st Grade ... though he has always felt part of the team, even 10 years ago when he was ballboy for the 1sts .. Great to see you out there Pat!
