Players player shared by John Paterson & Paul Robertson who scored all of his votes for that amazing try! Like Northlakes The Entrance have a struggle for player numbers, with a lot of their 2nd grade backing up to play 1sts. They showed a heap of heart and kept at it all game - after getting the opening try of the match - well done to them. Our firsts played good rugby and wrapped up the 1st round of competition with an 88-5 win. Despite the rain, all of our teams got to play their scheduled games yesterday .. the miracle of Kariong Oval is amazing, the drainage work has given them a fantastic playing surface! Starting from the early games the u11s had a good win over Gosford, followed by the u17s playing a great game that finished with a try each, but a late penalty sealed it for Kariong 10-5. Then the u14s took on the comp leaders and really stuck with the strong Kariong team. The 5-22 result is ...a lot closer than anyone expected. Then both opposing u14s teams lined up to clap on the Barbarians who were in a cracker of a game, tight all the way before the Barbarians got the result over Woy Woy 19-17. Next up was 2nd grade, a tough game to watch - we had a strong team but nothing worked and some heavy late scoring by Kariong left us at the wrong end of a 3-22 result. Tom Cole kicked the penalty, 3pts & players player to Paul Leef, 2pts John Paterson, 1pt Shaun Thompson. Firsts found themselves with some late dropouts meaning Jake McPhie got his first run-on start in the top grade - new to the Club, Jake and his brother Luke have already proven to be great Club men helping out wherever they can - now both starting to show some real potential on the field. Justin Thomas did a great job after also having been grabbed out of 2nds mid-game to be part of the 1sts. The game itself was a lot closer than last year and finished with a 31-0 result to the Sharks. Tries to Emile Thomas, Pete Steele (who also got players player and the 3pts), Chad Martin, Matt Anderson and Sam Evans. Dylan Hardaker landed 3 conversions. 2pts to debutante Jake McPhie, 1pt to Mitchell Jacob & Mick Critter Arnold.
The Colts had their game moved from Gosford to Woongarrah and got much closer to comeptiton leaders Gosford than the last time they played. 10-25 was the final score, with tries to Thomas Starkey & Rhys Stratton - who also got the 3pts, 2pts to Tom Starkey and 1pt to Tyler Mcmanus & Wesley Chegwidden. Players player to Luke Wiseman who later in the afternoon came on as a reserve to get his first game time in first grade. Well done Luke! Over at Ettalong the u12s and u13s both had big wins, and like all our teams were very grateful to Woy Woy who took on hosting our games for the day. The u10s showed big improvement in a tight loss against the home team at Warnervale. You know the story with the u7s, u8s & u9s. They are always great games to watch, no matter what the score! They are out there having lots of fun and loving the game. Next week Seniors play The Entrance at JBO to complete the first round, with Colts playing Woy Woy at the same ground. Cheers boys! This Saturday has our Senior teams at Kariong, taking on a Club that is having a much improved season. Though they have no 3rd grade, so at 1:40 2nds kickoff and the main game at 3pm. The u19s are playing Gosford at Woongarrah at 11:20. The 15s (12:20) , u14s (11:20), u17 (10:10) & 11s (9:20) precede the Senior games at Kariong. u8s & u10s are also at Woongarrah. Other Junior teams are at Ettalong.
Full information on the juniors in the post by Deborah Morris: Heazlett is closed for all games tomorrow (Saturday); these games have been moved to either Kariong or Ettalong. Games at Kariong are: u15s at 1220pm, u14s at 1120am & u11s at 920am. U17s remain unchanged. Games at Ettalong are: u13s at 1020am, u12s at 920am, u9s at 830am, u8 Green at 840am, u7 Gold at 8am & u7 Green at 8am. You are all the nominal home team, so you still need to provide ground marshals & first aides. I'll confirm referees soon. Games at Warnervale: u10s kick off at 850am & u8 Gold at 810am. 7 White is still at Ourimbah 8 am. U16s have a bye. Everyone will be advised if there are further changes. Calling your manager/coach at 5 am does not miraculously result in a decision. Hopefully the rain eases off and does not cause any more ground closures ... good luck to all the Sharks tomorrow Cheers Boys! After watching some great Juniors Rugby early in the day the Seniors commenced their work with the u19s who had coach Adam under big stress by having very short numbers before the stragglers rolled in late. Big thanks to the u17s who backed up and helped out! Final score was 0-29. 1pt to Rhys Stratton & Thomas Starkey, 2pts Ethan Fullagar and 3pts to Luke Wiseman. Thirds took the field with a few stars from yesteryear dusting off their boots to join in the fun. Down 7-14 ...deep into the game, a strong finish got them home to our first win of the day 24-14. 2 tries to Daniel Ranson, and 1 to try scoring machine Stephen Lamb (4 in 2 games now). 1 conversion to Chris Lewis and 2 conversions and a penalty to Nathan Brown. Coaches were so thrilled with the performance that all of the team got a point, 2pts to Iva Motusaga & Chris Oakes (who gave a heap of blood to the cause, before receiving a total of 15 stitches to get repaired). 3pts and players player to Nick Whitton. Seconds had their chances and did put in a much improved performance before finishing on the wrong side of a 3-15 scoreline. David Ireland, attempted to outdo Oaksey in amount of blood donated, trying to hide the damage under his headgear, hopefully all well for Dave tonight. Tom Cole kicked the penalty for us, 1pt to Jesse Pavlovich & new hooker Oliver Raftery, 2pts and players player John Paterson, 3pts to Shaun Thompson. Then on to big game. Sharks started strongly running uphill and controlled the the early play before Chad Martin scored the first try, followed by Daniel Aguirre-Acevedo in full steamroller mode when set free on the wing. Dylan Hardaker converted both for the 14-0 halftime lead. Getting on the wrong side of the penalty count in the 2nd half hurt the team and a converted Terrigal try made it too close. That is until a Dyl stepped up to land an angled penalty kicking with his bad leg (so bad he could barely get down to place the ball on the tee). He had a huge game, fearless, damaging tackling and smooth ball distribution. helped by surprise weapon Max Stewart, released from the heart of the scrum to play a starring role at half back. We all know how much talent Max has, but this just proved he is the complete player. Great effort by everyone, but had to give special mention to those two. 1pt to Pete Steele, 2pts to Dyl, 3pts and players player to Max Stewart.
A huge crowd and must thank everyone who assisted on the day, Janelle Hall and the ladies in the canteen, William Ritchie and the very busy bar helpers. Those players and helpers who did work BBQ, much appreciated!! Finally, a huge thanks to all who contributed to our bucket appeal for Garrison Bowers. Next week away At Kariong ... Cheers Boys!! |
