Congratulations to Andrew Lawler, who this week referees his first CCRU 1st grade game. Andy was a great young player, representing Country in u16s & u18s before injury got in the way of his playing career. This season he has concentrated on his refereeing and it is great to see he has reached top grade in his new career. Thanks to Brett Beaumont for his great work with referees at the Sharks; on Saturday Chris Wellington will be also be reffing a 1st grade game and Ronan Marks returning from injury will be doing a 2nd grade game - all Sharks players who have moved on to refereeing under Brett's guidance. We have plenty more young ones coming through our system as well - making a big contribution to CCRU & CCJRU. Respect our referees, we need them!

Thanks to Trev Reynolds for this fantastic video of Emile Thomas taking the field for his 200th 1st grade game for the Sharks, with his 3 sons Lachlan, Nathaniel & Levi. Says a lot about the man Emile is, that once he has been cheered on his first thought is to stand there and cheer on his teammates!
It was a very cold day at the Sharkpool, with mixed results for the Senior teams. The Colts continued to have trouble with the Kariong team and ended up losing 0-22. 1pt and players player to Aidan King, 2pts Jobe Graham & Justin Gilmore, 3pts Isaiah Fairless. Thirds went down an early try, but took control of the match and scored the next four before Kariong finished the game with a second try and 28-10 win for the Sharks . Tries to Mitch Mitchell, Deon Rangi, Paul Farah & Nick Rendall, with Will Byrne converting them all. 1pt Kyle Oakes & Mitch Mitchell, 2pts and players player Will Byrne, 3pts Wayne Lancaster. Seconds were in great form, strong defence and great running rugby led to a 47-0 win. Ethan Fullagar got the treble, 3 tries, 3pts and players player - huge game! Jordan Huszarek scored 2 tries and a conversion, Rob Magrath a try and 5 conversions and Declan Tancred got the other try. 1pt Tim Warwick & Rob Magrath, 2pts Paul Leef. The wind dropped and the crowd built so that there was a huge cheer for Emile Thomas as he led out first grade with his 3 sons for his 200th first grade game. It was a tight and tough game, dominated by the defence. At half time we were down 3-11 and they kicked a 3rd penalty to take the lead out to 3-14. We started to dominate the field position, but couldn't string together enough attacking moves to take advantage of being in their 22 until Mitchell Jacob took off for a great solo try that Connor Kondrat converted to go with his earlier penalty. At 10-14 there was plenty of time left and again just couldn't make the opportunities stick, their defence stayed strong and unfortunately we couldn't get that final try to grab a win. 1pt each to props Jake McPhie & Luke Sheridan, 2pts and players player in a mighty game from Emile Thomas, 3pts in his first 1st grade start at #9, Patrick Wheatley. Congratulations to Shaun Townsend on his first start in first grade. Next week Seniors at home to Hornsby, Junior a general bye for the school holidays. Cheers Boys! |
