A real summer day to start the season and the Juniors had a great time at gala days all over the coast. The first Senior Sharks to take the field were the Womens 7s team playing Woy Woy. After Stephanie Zervos scored the opening try the Sharks were worn down by a team who has had more game experience going down 5-31. In their second match it was a different story, the one game together had a made a big difference and we led all the way taking the win 31-19. Rachael Elcoate & Stephanie Zervos both scored 2 tries, Hannah Stewart getting the other one a strong run from a long way out. Rachael Elcoate also landed 3 conversions. In both those games we only had six players, and a big thanks to our opponents for matching numbers to keep the contests even. The final match we had lost a player to injury, so to ensure more game time, forfeited and played a trial game with the assistance of a couple of the opposing Hornsby players. Thanks to that team for giving us a chance to play out a full game. On the day every player deserved coach points for a huge effort in the heat so special mention to Priya Lame & Jenna Woodhouse, Hannah Stewart received 1pt, 2pts for Renee Staben and 3pts to Stephanie Zervos. Players player on the day went to Rachael Elcoate. Up at Woongarrah the u19s were taking on the home team who unfortunately didnt have a full squad. It was good hit out for our boys and they finished with a 65-7 win. Tries to Tom Wood (3), Aaron Holder (2), Hayden Davies, Tristan Morris-bowyer, Matt Peebles, Michael Houssenloge, Sebastian Bowcock & Kye Blair. Reece Jacobs landed 5 conversions. 1pt Matt Peebles, 2pts Hayden Davies, 3pts Eamon Powell, Players player was Tom Wood. Back at JBO 3rds had a big squad that was good mix of old and young (experienced and fresh?). A very tight match, with the locals holding on to a 3-0 lead at the half. Our boys started to look a bit sharper in the 2nd half and finished stronger to claim a 14-3 victory. Tries to Jake McPhie & Cameron Shaw (after a very slick backline move), conversions to Luke McPhie & Chris Lewis (playing his first game for the Sharks since getting a new hip!) 1pt Matthew Ritchie, 2pts Daniel Reihana, 3pts & players player Rob Magrath. 1s & 2s had a strong afternoon training session to prepare for their first games next week - home at the Sharkpool versus Kariong with 3s and u19s having a bye. Womens draw not yet out. Cheers Boys!
